John will discuss how the web is changing the marketplace that small businesses compete in today, and share current insights, inspirational stories, and actionable ideas to help your business take advantage of the online opportunity.
John Ball is Google’s Director of SMB for Australia and New Zealand. Before joining Google, he worked for over 30 years in the IT industry across Asia,the USA and Europe. John is passionate about helping SMBs grow, and has built his career leading and developing SMB teams across sales, consulting and marketing. John holds an MBA in Marketing and a Bachelor of Applied Science in computer science. Outside of work, he loves adventure travel and charity work, and will soon be taking part in a charity ride from Adelaide to Darwin to support men’s mental health.
Jonathan Richards, Team Lead, Google Creative Lab, Google Australia & New Zealand
Why innovation matters and tips for driving new ideas in your business
Jonathan will discuss the growing need for businesses to be nimble and responsive in today’s ever-changing economy. He will cover Google’s approach to innovation, share stories behind some recent experimental projects at Google, and offer his tips to set up your business to be one step ahead.
As part of the Google Creative Lab, Jonathan Richards works on projects which explore new ways to create compelling user experiences on the web. Before joining Google, he led the Interactive team at The Guardian newspaper in London, and has also worked as an editor, writer, and developer at The Times of London. He lectures on new forms of story-telling all around the world, and plays trumpet in his spare time.
Jenay Karlson, Agency Development Manager

Jenay will give a roadmap any business can take to be found online and win new customers. She will cover how to get a presence on Google Search and Maps for free, optimise your site for all devices, measure and analyse how people interact with your site and introduce Google’s marketing products.
Jenay Karlson is an Agency Development Manager for Google Australia & New Zealand. She joined Google in 2011, and has since worked in both Australia and the United States, primarily focusing on performance advertising. Jenay now works with agencies to grow global brands on Google's digital advertising platforms. She holds a Bachelor of Psychology, and a Masters in Social Policy and Evaluation from The University of Michigan. When she is not working, she enjoys paddle boarding, swimming, and exploring the Australian coastline.
