Wordly Advice

Writing for the web is an entirely different ball game to that of traditional advertising and effective web copy is essential but not necessarily easy. Ensuring your customers understand your website, how it works and what they can get out of it is imperative.

Everything from navigation menus to page content is significant in a web environment. The value of web copywriting may seem trivial but it plays one of the most important roles in a website, along with thoughtful design for the best possible user experience, for your unique target market.

The right words can be central in defining the personality of your website and your brand, allowing your target market to identify with you and your products/services and consequently engage with your website.

Once your ‘language’ has been established, its then time to remain consistent. Your website should be a living advertisement, continually being updated and refreshed with new content. Therefore keeping your language sharp and consistent is critical.

Too often we see websites with too much copy: web pages that scroll down seemingly forever with copious amounts of prose ‘dumped’ in there without a clear purpose. It’s often out-of-date and self-indulgent.

Web users skim read.

They want short, punchy information that is clear and to-the-point. But don’t worry, longer articles and blogs are still highly relevant and have their own place and purpose in websites.

People simply don’t read websites like they read traditional print materials. After all, it’s not a sunday morning spent perusing the weekend newspaper.

Your customers are on the information gateway, looking for an experience, and searching for information at their fingertips.

Making sure that your web copy is well-structured, engaging and valuable will be pivotal to the success of your website. At the end of the day, research is vital. A well-developed strategy should always be taken into account before embarking on copywriting... for any advertising platform.
